Game Report: Bristol Flyers 74-81 Seriös Group Newcastle Eagles
Seriös Group Newcastle Eagles were able to sneak past the Bristol Flyers in game week two of the 2023/24 British Basketball League.
The Newcastle Eagles were able to make a massive comeback in one of the closest games in the early season. The fourth quarter was the game changer with the Eagles picking up the win to the score of 81-74.
Starting Five:
Bristol
Flyers starting five: Tevin Olison, Corey Samuels, Kedrian Johnson, Raphell
Thomas-Edwards, Brad Greene
Newcastle Eagles starting five: Ricky McGill, Devin Whitfield, Jordan Johnson, Malcolm Delpeche, Tajh Green
First Half:
The matchup
between the Bristol Flyers and the Newcastle Eagles was expected to be a close
one to call, but you wouldn’t have expected it to be this close.
In the first quarter, both teams started near identical, with the Flyers taking a 21-19 lead over the Eagles to end the quarter.
Even though
Tajh Green was showing up for the Eagles with nine points in the first quarter,
both teams couldn’t get a run going with Bristol’s shooting woes leading to 20
rebounds for the Eagles in the first quarter alone.
The score
differential nearly stayed the same with the second quarter showing two evenly
matched teams. Trejon Jacob started to pick up the scoring load for the Flyers
with him finishing the second quarter with 12 points with Tevin Olison picking
up six assists by the end of the first half.
The second quarter ended with both teams tied at 43 points with all to play for in the second half.

Second Half:
Bristol
started to show their talent in the third quarter, going up 59-51 by the end of
the quarter.
Three-point
shooting started to become valuable in the third quarter, with the Flyers
starting to make a few. The Eagles couldn’t keep up from beyond the arc, but they
started getting themselves to the line, taking over a 10-point free throw lead
over the Flyers.
Rebounding
was also translating to the score with the Flyers catching up drastically with
the huge rebounding deficit they had by the end of the first half.
All was to play for in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles
seem to be the comeback kings this season and showed it again after coming back
from an eight-point deficit at the end of the third quarter.
Some sweet
scoring from Jordan Johnson and Tajh Green led the Eagles to the win after the
duo combined for a massive 42 points.
Three-point
shooting was arguably the cause of loss for the Flyers, only going 10-for-32
from beyond the arc.
Tonight’s MVP was Jordan Johnson. The guard put up a marvellous stat line of 26 points to go with five rebounds and five assists. Teammate Tajh Green wasn’t too far off with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Here are tonight’s top performers from each team:
Team | Name | Points | Rebounds | Assists |
Newcastle Eagles | Jordan Johnson | 26 | 5 | 5 |
Newcastle Eagles | Tajh Green | 19 | 11 | 1 |
Bristol Flyers | Trejon Jacob | 18 | 3 | 2 |
Bristol Flyers | Tevin Olison | 13 | 6 | 6 |
