Andrew Wiggins uncertain in G6 against Lakers due to rib fracture, still expecting to play

The Golden State Warriors have listed Andrew Wiggins as questionable to play in Game 6 of their Conference Semis series against the Los Angeles Lakers due to left costal cartilage (ribcage) fracture.

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Wiggins sustained the injury in the Dubs’ Game 5 win over the Lakers on Wednesday. In the middle of the game’s final frame, he grabbed an offensive board and cracked LeBron James on a box out battle and first started grabbing at the left side of his rib cage.

Per Marcus Thompson of The Athletic, the star forward was in noticeable pain after the game, but went on to reveal following his postgame that he’ll be good to go and expecting to suit up in the pivotal Game 6.

Wiggins is tallying 16.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in five games against the Lakers this series while assuming the daunting task of defending James. As they are looking to push the series to a seventh-game, his status and potential performance should be eventually made active to play are situations to consider.

As such, head coach Steve Kerr may likely rotate more bodies to lessen Wiggins’ load on both ends of the floor. High-motor wings Gary Payton II, Donte DiVincenzo and Moses Moody could receive added exposure, with seldomly used Jonathan Kuminga also in due for that playing service.
